Ceramic or clear braces are made of clear materials and are therefore less visible on your teeth then the traditional metal option. For this reason, they are used mainly on older teenagers and adult patients who have cosmetic concerns. While they are visually less prominent, they do require more attention to oral hygiene as ceramic brackets are larger and are more brittle than their metal counterparts. For these reasons, they tend to be used more on upper front teeth than on lower teeth.
Ceramic braces have come a long way over the years and these braces are also less likely to irritate sensitive mouths. Ceramic Braces are stronger than ever before, and can handle almost any bite issues.
Some patients are concerned that clear braces will discolor with time and while the braces themselves do not discolor, the clear ties that hold the wire to the brackets can become discolored if the patient drinks coffee, tea, wine, or eats any foods that stain (i.e curry). Fortunately, our team can change these ties every month to keep them looking sharp and clear.
