Children’s Teeth Correction
Children’s Teeth Correction? Are you a parent? Do you think your kids might need to visit an orthodontist for the first time? Do you have concerns about your children’s oral health? Of course you do. And, like most other parents who fit that description, you probably aren’t sure why or when your kids will need to see an orthodontist. This is where Parkland Orthodontics can help you.
When and Why Should My Kids See an Orthodontist?
Usually, children need to see an orthodontist by age seven (7); that’s usually when there is a good mix of primary (baby) and permanent (adult) teeth.
At this stage, an orthodontist – like Dr. Tania and the team at Parkland Orthodontics – can properly assess any issues your child(ren) has with his/her incoming teeth. The orthodontist can determine what kind of care and correction might be needed now or in the future, so that the teeth can develop properly.
Types of Corrections
The most common form of orthodontic correction used with children is braces. While braces have been known to be cumbersome in the past and have been associated with a negative stigma, the technology has come a long way to making braces a more positive experience for kids.
In such cases, braces can help correct the alignment of teeth, providing additional spacing for crowded teeth to come in straighter. In some other cases, early treatment can help improve minor speech problems.
What Should I Look For?
These are just a few things to look for:
- Crowded teeth
- Popping sounds when opening or closing their jaw
- Misaligned teeth
- Difficulty eating or chewing food
It’s always a good idea to have your child(ren) visit an orthodontist before it gets too late.
If you live in the Parkland area – including Coral Springs, Coconut Creek, Margate, and Boca Raton – and you have questions about the kind of treatment your child(ren) might need, be sure to call Parkland Orthodontics.
